报社记者何俊兰（徐路 饰）为了挽救重病的父亲，无奈和恋人谢家树（李宗翰 饰）分手，嫁给了沈家的公子沈岩（邱心志 饰）做少奶奶。沈家在上海经营着一家叫做“富康”的钱庄，沈父早年病逝，靠着手腕强硬的女强人沈母（潘虹 饰）操持，生意一日比一日红火。何俊兰在和沈岩在朝夕相处中渐生真爱，并且开始学着打理沈家的生意，生活渐渐步上正轨。然而命运却一再考验着这对夫妇，先是保守封建，一手遮天的沈母和思想前卫的俊兰婆媳间的冲突不断，然后攀慕虚荣的丫鬟嫣凤（傅淼 饰）因勾引少爷而被责罚后对沈家展开的报复，其后弃医从商风光归来的谢家树的身世曝光。沈家以往的平静不复存在，等待他们的是一场暴风雨的考验。。The film tells the story of three people for a year: a son (Magimel) diagnosed with cancer, a mother (Deneuve) suffering from helplessness and a doctor (Cécile de France) to do her job: One year and four seasons for these three characters to deal with the disease, to tame it, and to understand what it means to die while alive.。
