Accompanied by the memory of his mother, Iracema, and his camera, Aïnouz gives us a detailed account of the journey to his father's homeland| from the sea crossing to his arrival in the Atlas Mountains in Kabylia - a mountainous region in northern Alg...。志嘉的父亲因不满儿子的婚姻，而避居小岛，志嘉娶了明月后，生下了女儿玉莲。然而明月经受不住金钱诱惑，撇下父女俩与别人去了香港，志嘉从而积劳成疾，生活十分窘迫，不久，志嘉便去世了。留下女儿玉莲投靠爷爷长山于小岛中生活，玉莲与小朋友小豆子一起过上了孤儿流浪的生活。但玉莲是个懂事的孩子，她默默地帮爷爷做这做那，终于感动了爷爷，祖孙俩相依为命。而明月也在这时寻上岛来，想领回玉莲，弥补没做好母亲的罪责。长山此时身患绝症，虽舍不得孙女，但为玉莲前途着想，只好以“怒骂”迫使她离开自己，托付给明月抚养。。
