Disarmingly realistic in its depiction of the realities of frontier life, Heartland is a strong antidote to the cliches of traditional Westerns. This semi-documentary slice of life is based on the diaries of Elmore Randall Stewart about her days on the Wyoming frontier in the early 20th century. It's a strongly feminist statement about a woman raising her small daughter alone and scrapping for a living by working for a shy Scottish rancher. Director Richard Pearce brings an endearing touch to a film that is helped greatly by the dazzling cinematography of Fred Murphy. Conchata Ferrell and Rip Torn star in this small film that substitutes veracity for a high-powered plot. Pearce worked as a cinematographer on Woodstock and other documentaries before making his directorial debut. Winner of the 1980 Berlin Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival。讲述的是与母亲相依为命的禹威（田川饰），在去探望外婆的路上意外遇车祸，不得不与外婆生活在一起，同时遭遇一连串的意外事件，偶然进入久负盛名的默林学院学习，并意外得知自己被圣水晶灵摆选中，未来会走上魔术师的道路。这让对魔术一窍不通的禹威来讲，很是郁闷，而让他更郁闷的是那个让他哭笑不得的丫头茉莉（卢洋洋饰）竟成为了他的助手，还为他带来了一大堆的敌人，更让他错愕的是他从未见过的父亲居然也是魔术师。通过修炼、旅行、世界魔术大赛等等事件之后，禹威通过自己的努力慢慢成长为一个优秀的魔术师，他与茉莉的误会也逐渐消除，看视一切都在往好的方向发展，然而让禹威没想到的是，一大波将会让他人生发生巨变的阴谋正在袭来……。
